Lil' Chris

We first saw Lil' Chris on that silly show with the man from Kiss who has slept with a lot of ladies. But you can forget about that now. It's not important. What is important is that Chris's debut single 'Checkin' It Out' is a pop record more perfect than is conceivable to hope for in this day and age. And the album's none too shabby either.

But in case things don't work out, we dragged him in for a spot of work experience. As you can see from our pictures, he was a bit rubbish at it. While he was pretending to do stuff, we asked him what he'd been up to since graduating from 'Rock School'...

"It's been really good since the TV show. Gene Simmons gave me some advice. He said, 'The more you put in, the more you put out.' That's a bit cheesy isn't it? I haven't really spoken to him since though, as I've been working with my producers Ray Hedges and Nigel Butler. Straight after the show finished, they came up to me and asked if I wanted to start recording with them, so we went to Spain and made the single 'Checkin' It Out' and then started showcasing it to record companies - and that's how it all happened!"

"Recording the album has been the highlight so far. Hearing it all back was nuts. I haven't met that many famous people yet as we've just been recording. But I met The Kooks! Justin Hawkins is probably the one rock star I'd most like to meet though. He's from my school too! Only a bit older so I never met him. The posters in my bedroom are mostly of The Darkness. But to be honest I don't think I'd want to do a duet with him. I don't really see the point. They're always a bit rubbish and then you have to release them as a single because that's the only reason people agree to do them."

"I've also had my 16th birthday. I went go-karting and ten pin bowling and stuff, and I got some money. I didn't celebrate by having a fag though. Disgusting habit! 'Just Say No', kids! And say no to drugs too!"

"I just finished my GCSEs, I didn't do too badly. I got 11. I think drama's probably my best subject apart from music, it's a laugh. It took time to get used to it because I still had to go to school while we were filming the show, and there wasn't time to do revision and coursework and stuff."

"Some of the kids at school were really jealous and spiteful. They'd come up and say, 'I don't agree with your music.' Well, what don't you agree with? I write it all, I sing it all, it's not really a matter of agreeing is it? It's all music. But some of them were really good and just said, 'Well done.'"

"I get recognised a lot now. Sometimes they just shout out, 'Oi, Rock School!' My name's not 'Rock School', all right! But I've had girls shouting and screaming, quite a few times. I love that, it's wicked. It's what it's all for isn't it? But there's nothing I regret, nothing I wish I hadn't done, it's been wicked so far."

And we wish you the best of luck, Chris. Now get out of our office before you break something...
