A brand new cultural centre opened in the Middle East tonight - the first of many to come in the region, as Nicholas Glass reports.
In the relative cool of the evening and to musical accompaniment - here was a long anticipated opening.
The first of the new Gulf Museums - the first of what promises to a batch - all lavishly endowed and designed by a succession of star architects.
The first to open is the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Will it do for Doha what the Guggenheim did for Bilbao?
