Political correspondent Cathy Newman explains where the case of the deputy mayor of London goes next.

Speaking on Channel 4 News at Noon, political correspondent Cathy Newman said there remained some unaswered questions for Ray Lewis.

These came as London mayor Boris Johnson announced that Martin Narey, the former head of the prison service will head an inquiry into claims of inappropriate behaviour and financial irregularities against his deputy.

Newman said: "One key question is that the mayor was told by the Church of England that Ray Lewis could no longer practice as a vicar because of these allegations. Why did that not ring alarm bells?

"A second question. Ray Lewis on Channel 4 News last night spoke of a financial venture that he had with his parishioner Mary Massey.

"Was it appropriate for him to have that type of financial relationship?"

Ray Lewis denies any wrongdoing.
