She was labelled homophobic and threatened with dismissal by her employers, all because of her religion.
Now a tribunal has agreed with council registrar Lillian Ladele, who claimed she should not have to conduct same-sex civil partnerships because it was against her Christian beliefs.
The case has raised questions about gay and religious rights. Is one more important than the other?
