Britain wins team pursuit gold

British cyclist Bradley Wiggins claimed his second gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in the team pursuit event.

Wiggins and his team-mates Paul Manning, Geraint Thomas and Ed Clancy broke the world record as they beat Denmark in the final.

Wiggins said: "It's phenomenal. Yesterday I was pretty down after the first couple of rounds, I was mainly disappointed because I didn't want to let these guys down. I was on the back foot a bit because it was a tough day the day before.

"But these guys sacrificed a lot. It's just fantastic to be part of this team, we've come a long way in four years. And to put a time like that on the board is phenomenal really."

Wiggins had already won the individual pursuit and he will have a chance to win a third medal in the Madison.

He added: "I set out to do that. I believed I could do it but to put it into practice is another thing. It's such a relief when you do it and cross the line."

Victory gives Great Britain its biggest haul of Olympic gold medals since 1920. The team has now won 12 golds, one more than Sydney in 2000, and three more than Athens four years ago.
