Rafael Nadal has ended Roger Federer's five-year winning streak at Wimbledon.

The Spaniard won an epic five-set final 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7 as the world's top two players met in the final for the third year in succession.

And the victory could prove to be a landmark in Nadal's career.

It is the first time he has beaten Federer on grass and the first time he has won a major tournament on a surace other than clay.

Nadal's the first player to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year since Bjorn Borg in 1980.
